Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has revealed his decision not to comply with a summons from the Kumasi Traditional Council regarding alleged derogatory comments he made about its members. He argues that the informal invitation and prejudiced statements by some council members presume his guilt. In an Abusua FM interview on January 25, 2024, Ampaw stated that attending the Council’s hearing would expose him to heckling and insults, emphasizing the preconceived judgment against him. Despite the Council’s Monday hearing addressing disrespect toward the Asantehene by NPP Chairman Wontumi, Ampaw remains adamant, citing the absence of fairness. Wontumi, defended by Ampaw, faces the Council’s scrutiny in light of statements made on a radio station affiliated with him. Both Ampaw and the station have issued apologies.
I won’t step foot at manhyia – Maurice Ampaw.
