Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Charles Owiredu, has officially announced the commencement of visa-free entry into South Africa, effective November 1, 2023. The High Commissioner mentioned that successful test runs were conducted the previous week, indicating a promising start for the initiative. He confirmed that initial entries have proceeded smoothly, and he encouraged Ghanaians to report any challenges they might encounter.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration unveiled a visa waiver agreement for individuals holding ordinary passports from Ghana and South Africa. This agreement is expected to bring substantial changes to travel between the two nations. The ministry’s statement highlighted that under this agreement, travelers with ordinary passports from both countries will no longer require visas for certain visits. It allows for transit, departure, and stays of up to ninety (90) days for various purposes. Travelers are advised to take note of these new regulations.
