Watch: Black Sherif’s Memorable Visit to Chief Imam

Singer and Rapper Black Sherif Pays Respects to 104-year-old National Chief Imam

Black Sherif, the 22-year-old singer and rapper, made a heartwarming courtesy visit to the 104-year-old National Chief Imam, Sheik Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu. In a video that went viral on October 25, 2023, the Fan Yogo ambassador was seen kneeling before the Chief Imam at his residence in Accra. They shared fellowship, engaged in prayer, and received blessings from Dr. Sharubutu.

Black Sherif has consistently expressed his dedication to his Islamic faith. However, he also acknowledges his artistic pursuits, even though, as he explained during a 2021 Pure FM interview hosted by Kojo Sebor, the Sunni denomination to which he belongs does not traditionally endorse music.

Born Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, the artist was raised in a Muslim household and the Konongo Zongo community in the Ashanti Region. He is the son of an Akan Asante man who converted from Christianity to Islam.

Black Sherif’s visit to the Chief Imam’s residence comes on the heels of his remarkable victory at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Hiphop Awards 2023, where he received the prestigious Best International Flow Award, just a year after his first nomination in the same category. His latest project includes a two-track single titled “Take Care of Yourself, Blacko,” featuring the instant hits “Simmer Down” and “Yaya.”
