World Bank Urges Immediate Attention to Ghana’s Energy Crisis

Anna Bjerde, the Managing Director of Operations at the World Bank, has recommended that the government of Ghana implement an emergency action plan to address the country’s energy crisis. Bjerde emphasized the World Bank’s commitment to providing technical advice to ensure that Ghana’s energy sector contributes to economic resilience. Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Bjerde stated that while Ghana’s energy challenges are not unique, they require immediate attention. Failing to promptly address these issues will worsen the situation and impose greater financial burdens on the state, diverting resources from other critical areas. Bjerde stressed the importance of an emergency action plan to effectively tackle the energy crisis. Additionally, she highlighted that the World Bank is offering technical advice on metering, billing, and revenue collection to ensure proper compensation for electricity generation.
